Dan Uggla of the Florida Marlins is a talented young second baseman who finished third in the 2006 Rookie of the Year voting. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Uggla in the 11th round- 338th overall- in the 2001 amateur draft- and he spent five years in the Diamondbacks' minor league system before the team released him in 2005. The Marlins promptly snapped him up in the Rule 5 Draft and he quickly emerged as a budding star in 2006- earning a trip to the All-Star Game and finishing the season with a .282 batting average- 27 home runs and 90 RBI.
